The second edition of the Adriatic and Ionian Macroregion Youth Games: one of the greatest event held recently in Ancona, that took place last June 15-17, 2016  and that aroused large enthusiasm among the citizens and therefore their involvement in it.
There were over 1000 girls and boys and their chaperones and carers involved in the event; furthermore the city streets and city port bustled of people;  20 city sports facilities were crowded with athletes, team supporters and fans; 20 male and female sports tournaments were organized, 466 medals awarded to athletes, nearly 6000 meals delivered to participants and 12,000 liters of water consumed; over 250 Civil Protection volunteers dedicated 1500 working hours to the event, over 50,000 facebook contacts in two languages realized , and so on…

After more than a week it ended, let’s sum up the event, now considered and seen as a real phenomenon by 8 countries of the Macroregion (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia). The Mayor of Ancona has received numerous letters of appreciation from the participating cities of the other seashore expressing their gratitude and respect for the event and agreeing that the organization of such event unifies two shores, bringing the brotherhood between communities and consolidating the relationship between countries. Ancona is considered as a reference point of this new Geo-political identity, that is increasingly tightening its bonds, especially between young generation, also thanks to the AIM Youth Games.
Also the Italian part gave its maximum consensus for the initiative organized by  the Municipality of Ancona. Many Italian Regions took part in this second edition of the AIMYG such as Abruzzo, Puglia, Umbria, Molise, Emilia Romagna by participating  over 60 young athletes in different sporting disciplines.And of course the Marche Region with 154 athletes coming from the city of Ancona and 10 girls from the basketball team coming from the city of Civitanova.

Sports: 11 sports disciplines for athletes in the age range of  15-16 to whom were awarded 170 bronze, 149 silver and 147 golden medals  during the closing ceremony, held in the Old Port of Ancona.
Furthermore, thanks to the collaboration with the Regional School office, over 260 high school students were actively involved in the event as interpreters, guides, field reports ecc.
The event, led by the City of Ancona and coordinated by two city councilors, Andrea Guidotti – responsible for Sports issues and ìIda Simonella- responsible for the International Relations, was organized with contribution of Marche Region.
The organizers also availed of the support of the Regional Sporting Federations that have proven again an outstanding spirit of cooperation.

The success of this event has demonstrated that Ancona is always more a reference point for overseas realities. The notable participation of foreign athletes and their delegations has reaffirmed the importance of Ancona and its leading role in the Macroregion. Due to the fact that many important moments of the event have taken place at the Ancient Port, the Games have been also an occasion to renew the will of the City Administration and the Portual Authority, that is promoting the port as an important logistic port of call – I’m thinking of cruises, but also an attractive place for tourists and citizens”.

“We are extremely satisfied” claims Andrea Guidotti – this second edition has confirmed the success of the first one. We have received a lot of expressions of affection and congratulations from all athletes and foreign delegations. Ancona has again demonstrated to be a good place to host important sports events, in which sport is acts as a means to promote the image and tourism of our city”.

“The Youth Games” – continues Ida Simonella, city councilor responsible for the International Relations and general coordinator of the initiative – have contributed to strengthen the Adriatic and Ionian Macroregion strategy: delegations coming from 15 international cities, reinforced ties and relations with institutions and an international recognition to Ancona, whose celebrating and welcoming image of these days has been also published on important foreign newspapers. The event was a complete success”.

The “Adriatic and Ionian Macroregion Youth Games” have been again promoted and organized by the City of Ancona with the support of Marche Region, the Forum of Adriatic and Ionian Cities, the School Authority Office for the Marche Region – MIUR, the CONI, the local Port Authority, the Chamber of Commerce of Ancona, the Italian Navy, the Secretariat for the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, the AICCRE (Italian Association of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions –CEMR) and Network Città Sane.

As regards the most original shopwindow of the city, this year the rewards went to Corto Maltese (first place, 280 likes) and Birbe e Monelli (second place with 223 like),  both awarded during the closing ceremony.
Solidarity was also part of the event, thanks to the initiative for “Doctors without borders”, the biggest indipendent humanitarian organization in the whole world, and also thanks to AVIS support, ethical partner of the Youth Games.
More than 200 sweaters have been sold during the event and the profits will go entirely to Doctors without Borders.

The Youth Games have been possible thanks to the generous support of Adria Ferries and DPI , GGF Group,  with  Sida, Marche Maraviglia and Seeport Hotel, Prometeo Estra Edma, API, Unicredit, Avis, Puntogomme, Hotel Passetto.
